Jamila Griswell

    My name is Jamila Griswell, Virginia native, a wife (11 years), mother of two girls ages 11 and 9, and the owner and facilitator of Tru Smilz Daycare Center.  I developed the love for working with children around the tender age of 12. Knowing then, in my heart that this was what God called me to do. Currently, I volunteer as a facilitator in the Children’s Ministry at Calvary Revival Church Norfolk Va.  Prior to working at the church, I worked 4+ years for the City of Va Beach Parks and Recreation as the Director of the Before and After School program.  I am currently pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education.  Being in school has afforded me the opportunity to spend over 50 hours of classroom observation in Norfolk and Va Beach Public school system. These observations have allowed me to understand that every child learns differently.  Because of this, I use a curriculum that engages children to learn irregardless of their learning styles.  The curriculum focuses not only on the physical but their developmental needs as well.  In my care your child’s wellness is my number one mission (which is how the name true Tru Smilz came about) and your child will always be actively engaged in learning through ….arts and crafts, games, story time, exercise, etc.
